The Late Mutula Kilonzo

A requiem mass for the late Makueni County Senator Hon. Mutula Kilonzo is organized this morning Wednesday 8TH May, 2013, to take place at the Nairobi Baptist Church. This will present an opportunity to those people who may not make it to Mbooni to have an opportunity and chance to pay their last respects to the late fallen Makueni lawmaker.

The convoy transporting the body of the late Senator is expected to leave Lee Funeral Home on Thursday morning for the final resting place at Mbooni. Over 10,000 people from Makueni County alone are expected to attend the funeral service at Kikima Secondary School in Mbooni before Mr. Kilonzo’s Burial at his Woyani home.

There are some constraints at the burial site therefore, everyone is invited for the Funeral Service (at Kikima Secondary School), but it is only close family, friends and relatives who will access the grave site at 2pm as mutual is laid to rest.

The Kenyan Government Spokesman Muthui Kariuki has confirmed that President Uhuru Kenyatta is scheduled to attend the late Mutual’s Funeral in Mbooni after he returns from his London trip on Wednesday.

Kenyans Have Continued To React to Mutula Kilonzo's Death

H.E Uhuru Kenya, President of Kenya: My heartfelt condolences go out to the family, relatives, friends and residents of Makueni County following the death of Senator Mutula Kilonzo. I am shocked and greatly saddened by the untimely death of Senator Kilonzo. He was one of Kenya’s most brilliant minds, a principled politician and a renowned lawyer. He was an astute politician and leader who was immensely popular among the people of Makueni county and beyond. He was also an outstanding performer who served the country diligently in various capacities including as minister for Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Minister forNairobi Metropolitan and Minister for Education. Both as a politician and as a minister, the late Senator Kilonzo was a competent, consummate and resolute administrator who stuck to his convictions even in the face of opposition. I pray that God grants his family the strength and fortitude to bear the tragic loss. Rest in peace Senator Kilonzo. You will be greatly missed.

Mwai Kibaki (Former President): “Indeed, I will forever cherish the time we worked together with Mutula when he was minister for Justice, National Cohesion and Constitutional Affairs in the realisation of the new Constitution,” the former President said.

The cruel hand of death had once again handed the country deep pain at a trying time. The Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD), had lost a rare legal and political mind that would be hard to replace. We will certainly miss Honourable Mutula’s capacity to think out of the box and to make simple issues that are otherwise extremely complex. We have lost a leader not shy to speak the truth, however, bitter, who was ready to state what the law says, even if that rubbed the wrong way. Kenya is going through a rare moment in its history replete with immense legal and political challenges, the country needed Mutula’s brilliance, open-mindedness and ability to reach out to others of divergent opinion. We stand with the family, the people of Mbooni he represented in the Tenth Parliament, those of Makueni whom he was to represent in the Senate, and the people of Kenya at this difficult moment.

Kalonzo Musyoka: Hon. Mutula; I am still in shock over the sudden demise of a Brother, Professional colleague and my Party secretary general Hon. Mutula Kilonzo. It is really a devastating moment. God Bless you All.
