CORD Senators and Governors converge in Mombasa this weekend for a retreat

Nairobi: CORD Senators and Governors converge in Mombasa this weekend for a retreat where they will chat the way forward for the coalition as the official opposition in Kenya.
The retreat which is scheduled to begin on Sunday (30th June) and end on Monday (1st July) next week will be held at the Serena Beach Hotel in North Coast.

The retreat brings together all the 24 Governors and 29 Senators (53 in number) and will be discussing ways and means of strengthening the opposition and provide the necessary checks and balances to the government.

The meeting will also discuss the issue of Devolution and how to protect it from forces that are not willing to support it. Adequate funding to County Governments is paramount in ensuring smooth running of the devolved units and the retreat will also be deliberating on the matter.

There is need for close working relationship between Senators and Governors in ensuring the success of Devolution and the leaders will be seeking to cement the ties between the two organs which are critical to the full implementation of devolution as stipulated in the Constitution.
