The High Court on Friday ruled that Ruto has failed to provide evidence that he purchased the land belonging to Eldoret farmer Adrian Muteshi.
The court has also ordered the deputy president to pay Muteshi Sh5 million for trespassing on his land and denying him use since 2008.
I conclusively find that Muteshi is the owner of the land,” Rose Ougo said in her ruling.
“The evidence before me it’s clear that there were fraudulently activities in the manner the land was subdivided and sold.”
“I order that Ruto to pay Sh5 million as compensation to Muteshi. “She added
Ruto had told the court that he had been defrauded, while the complainant Muteshi stated that he was forcefully evicted during the 2007/2008 post-election violence.
In his submission, the deputy president argued that he purchased the land from a third party, Dorothy Yator, but was not directly involved in the transaction.
