The first family is in
mourning following the death of President Uhuru Kenyatta's eldest sister
Margaret Wambui.
Wambui was the
eldest of two children of Mzee Jomo Kenyatta and his first wife Nyokabi.
She died in a
Nairobi hospital after a short illness , and was aged 89 years. She had no
child and was never married at the time of her death.
She is in records as
the first African woman mayor of Nairobi. She was the deputy mayor of Nairobi
in the year 1966, and rose to Mayorship in the year 1971.
