Breaking News: Kenyan Blogger Robert Alai Detained

This is the latest update from Robert Alai as posted on his facebook account

'Ask William Oduol why CID officers under the command of Mr Kariuki are detaining me without any charges yet. Being detained since 11 AM. They can't charge me because they know that they have no case. Ask him also where I posted the offending messages. He either produce the screenshots or the links to the messages.

Daily Post, Jackal News, Nairobi Wi and others have all presented writings against Oduol. He is bitter about nothing. IRONIC that we fought for Oduol during the last ODM nominations thinking he was the best option. William Oduol is proving that power makes him very corrupt. This is going to be a very good lesson to Oduol. Let him fool himself.

BTW I went to court knowing that Oduol was misusing the justice system and wanting me arrested. That is why I was prepared to go into a police cell'.

Earlier today, the below statement purported to be from  Oduol was posted on Gor Mahia is not a club but a lifestyle facebook account. It read:

'Dear All,
Today, I filed both criminal libel and civil suit against one Robert Alai, a blogger who has been posting falsehoods on his Facebook page, twitter and blogs that I am a wife batterer. I have done this because I believe in the rule of law and would like the whole truth to come out. I am an accomplished professional who has worked hard to get to where I have got and would not allow anybody to bring my name to disrepute without any justifiable reason. On this breathe, I would also like to ask our hard working journalists to practice responsible

journalism and only report/post on issues they have researched on and/or have enough evidence.

Like every law abiding citizen that may feel aggrieved and believes in due process, I wrote my statement with CID headquarters for the criminal libel suit and also instructed my lawyers to file a civil suit, both of which were executed and served on Mr. Alai today. The constitution enshrines certain liberties to all of us and in the fullness of time, we shall know who is telling the truth. As a by the way, I would like to caution that we do not allow politicians to use us in spreading malicious and unfounded falsehoods against innocent Kenyans.

I thank you all for handling this discourse with decorum and civility'.

Decision Times Kenya is keenly following the developments of this Alai/Oduol episode and will keep on updating any development.

Sad News: The Conjoined Nakuru Twins Are Dead - Kenyatta National Hospital Reports

Conjoined Nakuru Twins Die at Kenyatta National Hospital

It is supposed to be a mother’s day weekend yet one woman is at loss in trying to figure out the death omen that visited her this Saturday morning. Kenyatta National Hospital Nairobi has confirmed that the conjoined twins born in Nakuru died this Saturday Morning.

Earlier, Doctors and specialists had indicated that the twins shared body organs and therefore could not be surgically separated in any way. The y both shared sexual organs, liver, kidneys, heart, bladder, kidneys and rib cage. They also had three hands and two separate heads and two legs.

Kenyatta National Hospital Chief Executive Officer;  Richard  Lesiyampe said that doctors worked hard and explored all avenues in trying to save the lives of the two twins, but all was in vain.

The Mother to the twins; Evelyn Omodho  had gone to Rift Valley General Hospital for normal child delivery: hoping that one of her twins would be a female and the other male. Evelyn who is  a small business woman at Ole Nguroine (in Rift Valley) was however shocked to have delivered conjoined twins. After delivery, she was immediately referred to Kenyatta National Hospital for further follow up.

‘I want to sincerely thank all the Doctors and Specialists who were involved for tirelessly working in trying to save the life of my little angels. They honestly did their best, but God’s will prevailed. These Doctors are very friendly. I have never seen such doctors who are always ready to help. May the Almighty God reward them. May they live long to serve others in our beloved country’…….Evelyn Omodho (The Late Twin’s Mother).

‘We thank them for they did their best. Other Doctors and nurses should emulate them’..Gilbert Tum (The Late Twin’s Father).

Decision Times Kenya wishes the family, friends and relatives of the twin’s strength and courage as they go through this tormenting moment. Surely, God has a reason for letting things happen. We may never understand his intention, but we’ve got to trust in his will. Poleni sana and be strong.

Cord Pulls All Its Members Out Of All House Parliamentary Committees

CORD - Coalition For Reforms and Democracy
Nairobi, Kenya: CORD has withdrawn its members from all parliamentary committees until it gets chairmanship and majority members in key watchdog committees.

CORD wants to head and have majority members in the Public Investment Committee ( PIC) and Public Accounts Committee ( PAC).
Accusations were traded on Monday over claims that MPs allied to CORD had plotted an amendment of Standing Orders last January.
This led to a rift between Jubilee and CORD over membership of the two watchdog committees.
The repealed Standing Orders provided that the opposition parties shall have majority of one in membership of PIC AND PAC.
The new rules provides that membership of committees is based on party strength in the House meaning that Jubilee Coalition controls all committees.

Nancy Baraza Headed Back To Lecture Hall To Teach Law At The University of Nairobi

Former Deputy Chief Justice: Nancy Baraza
Courtesy of Daily Nation

“In three words, I can sum up everything I have learned about life: It goes on.” These words of the famous American poet Robert Frost best illustrate the move by former Deputy Chief Justice Nancy Baraza to join the University of Nairobi’s School of Law as a lecturer.
University of Nairobi Vice-Chancellor, Prof George Magoha, said that Ms Baraza has a lot to offer law students following her experience at the reformed Judiciary. “She has contributed a lot to the legal fraternity and is expected to bring a wealth of experience to the teaching of law at the university,” Prof Magoha said.
Although it is not yet clear what course she will teach, Ms Baraza is expected to bring changes to the faculty whose certificate of recognition by the Council of Legal Education is yet to be renewed. She did not answer calls or reply to text messages left on her phone as the Sunday Nation sought her comment on the move.
Law Society of Kenya chairman Eric Mutua supported her move to return to teaching. Ms Baraza has previously taught law at Kenyatta University’s Parklands campus. “The world of academia is different from the Judiciary where she was dispensing justice. Nothing would bar her from pursuing a career in teaching even in a public institution like the University of Nairobi,” Mr Mutua said. “The standards that were applied at the Judiciary are not the same in the world of academia where she will be empowering students,” he added.
Alongside Ms Baraza, other law lecturers including Justice Mary Ang’awa and lnternational law scholar, Dr Godfrey Musila, were being considered for positions at the School of Law.
Justice Ang’awa is one of the judges found unsuitable to continue serving in the Judiciary by the Judges and Magistrates Vetting Board. As part of efforts to meet the requirements of the Council of Legal Education for renewal of accreditation, the university last year appointed Prof Kameri-Mbote as the Dean of Faculty while Prof Musili Wambua and Prof Albert Mumma were appointed her deputies.
Founded in 1970, the school has failed to meet the requirements in terms of the number of lecturers, books (both online and hardcopies) as well as physical facilities. According to the requirements, an institution offering a law degree must have at least five copies of core titles for each course and 2,000 electronic journals and other relevant books on law.
Prof Kameri-Mbote noted that the school has since constructed a state-of-the-art moot court for students to simulate cases and was now ready for renewal of its certificate of accreditation.
“Whatever happened during her (Baraza) tenure at the Judiciary is in the public domain and we believe that it will not influence her ability to teach law. Her CV is very impressive and she has a lot to offer our students,” Prof Magoha said.
The former DCJ served as a lesson in humility as the country watched the proceedings of a tribunal appointed by President Kibaki to investigate her conduct and suitability to remain in office after she had pinched the nose of a security guard who tried to screen her at the entrance of a shopping mall.
Ms Rebecca Kerubo later lodged a complaint with the police claiming Ms Baraza had assaulted her, threatened her with a gun and warned her that “you should know people”. The incident sparked public uproar prompting the Judicial Service Commission to petition the President to suspend Ms Baraza and form a tribunal to look into her conduct. Then, Ms Baraza had only been in office as the deputy chief justice of the Supreme Court for six months.
The public was treated to drama as the country’s second most powerful judge became the subject of a prosecution. And, although witnesses gave contradictory accounts of what happened that fateful evening, the tribunal concluded that Ms Baraza had acted improperly and recommended her removal from office.

Shocking: A Female University Student Delivers In Male Hostel

A female student at Moi University delivered a healthy baby earlier on today in Male Hostel H. The medical and security departments have confirmed that she is in stable condition and is currently admitted at the Moi Teaching & Referral Hospital.

The student is reported to have given birth in one of rooms in Hostel H. She was later rushed to the dispensary. However, due to heavy blood loss, she was transferred to the hospital in town.

Efforts to acquire more details on the incident did not bear much fruit. Meanwhile, the medical department has called on students to be alert over emergency cases to avoid such incidents.

The emergency line is 0727056705.
