Having been
re-elected by a landslide of more than 76% of total votes cast, Russia's President
Vladimir Putin got another nod to became the country's President for a fourth term, on a six year term.
Notably, Putin faced no strong challenger in the polls, with the country's main opposition challenger Alexei Navalny barred from contesting. This prompted the European observers to note that although the polls were efficiently conducted, there was deficit of genuine choice for the voters.

While congratulating
Putin, Trump went on record stating that
"the arms race between the US and Russia is getting out of
control... but we will never allow anybody to have anything close to what we
have".

Trump further stated
that he hope meeting Putin in the so distant future to discuss among other
things, the arms race issue.
