Young Kenyan Technoprenuer Earning More Than Ksh 100,000 pmThrough Nokia Store

Stephen Maingi, is a young developer with a great entrepreneurial spirit and many good ideas when it comes to developing applications.

Through the Nokia Store, he has managed to convert his ideas into cash; netting around 100,000 KES per month from downloads.

Stephen’s entrepreneurship journey began in 2009 when he started application development, all self-taught by using resources from the internet e.g. YouTube.

Shortly thereafter, he developed a suite of 14 applications called Kyuste Mobile Suite. These included apps like: My.Manager for adding, viewing and editing contacts; Scriptures covering a collection of bibles verses; Finance for personal finance management; Diary for management of daily and future events; I.Record for storing important information, SMS. Chat and many others.

Sure that he was onto something good, he began the process of looking for investors to raise the necessary capital like any other entrepreneur would do.

Despite presenting at a number of Innovation Forums and knocking on several doors, Stephen made no progress on his dream of commercializing his suite of apps.
He then went the route of direct sales by personally visiting schools and marketing his applications to teachers. However, with no personal transport and some health issues, this process was slow and limited, and eventually he had to get a regular job.

During this time, Stephen did manage to get 12 apps registered on GetJar where users would download the applications and get the activation code after paying for the app via PayPal. However, the commercial success was very limited with many users either not having or using a PayPal system at that time, and the sum total of his efforts amounted to around 2,000 KES per month. However, in August 2011, Stephen’s dreams were re-ignited when he heard about the Nokia Store and the ability to publish apps for free. By mid-October, he had published the first 12applications, rebranded under his new company Dolphins Data Systems. Within the first 2 weeks, Stephen had already received revenue of almost 19,000 KES from his downloads.

With this incentive in mind, he pushed forward, more determined than ever, and has since published around 200 applications to Nokia Store. These now generate an average income of around 100,000 KES per month for the young developer.

“My journey with Nokia has been an amazing one,” says Stephen. “Based on my success, I have already started work on a Qt and Windows Mobile version of my apps, and I hope to capture the smartphone user base next. I recently attended the Open Innovation Africa Summit in Nairobi and this has inspired me to keep on developing mobile apps – there is so much opportunity in this space. The ‘3 idiots’ movie reveals it better: Make your passion your profession”.

Deputy President; Ruto Requests To Be Allowed Skip Most Of ICC Trial Sessions

Amsterdam - Deputy President William Ruto asked international war crimes judges Tuesday if he can skip most of his trial and attend only its opening and closing sessions, and any other sessions judges deem particularly necessary.
At a hearing at the International Criminal Court in The Hague, Netherlands, Ruto said he is seeking to balance his political duties and his responsibility to answer the charges against him.
Ruto is charged together with journalist Joshua Arap Sang of alleged murder, forcible deportation and persecution of supporters of political opponents in the country's 2007 presidential election.
"For the avoidance of any doubt, I want to say to the court that I have cooperated with the prosecutor," he said. I have "submitted to jurisdiction of this court when required, and will, without any plea or contradiction, do so in the future."
Judges are to set a date for Ruto and Sang's trial after the hearing.
Ruto said Tuesday he was a victim of a "conspiracy of lies choreographed by networks obviously against truth and justice."
Ruto's trial was due to start this month, but judges have postponed that after defense lawyers protested they haven't been given enough time to prepare. They are seeking a November start date.
Presiding Judge Kuniko Ozaki told Ruto at the end of Tuesday's hearing he did not need to remain in the Netherlands for the continuation of the hearing on Wednesday.....Associated Press

Kenyan Cabinet Secretaries Sworn In : What President Uhuru Kenyatta Said

SPEECH BY HIS EXCELLENCY HON. UHURU KENYATTA, C.G.H., PRESIDENT AND COMMANDER IN CHIEF OF THE DEFENCE FORCES OF THE REPUBLIC OF KENYA DURING THE SWEARING-IN OF CABINET SECRETARIES AT STATE HOUSE GARDENS, NAIROBI ON 15TH MAY, 2013

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I am pleased to preside over your swearing-in as Cabinet Secretaries. I take this opportunity to congratulate you on your appointment to these important positions.

As you are aware, your responsibilities will entail assisting my Deputy and I in managing the affairs of our country by taking responsibility over the various dockets to which you been appointed.

Kenyans, and indeed the world at large, expect us to provide leadership that will take our country to the next level of development. I urge all of us to commit to meeting the expectations of our people and to serve all Kenyans equally. Having successfully navigated the vetting process and winning the approval of the National Assembly, I am confident that you are equal to the task ahead. I take this opportunity to wish you all the best as you take up your respective responsibilities.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Our new Constitution clearly stipulates the values and principles of the public service. These include:
  • Efficient, effective and economic use of resources;
  • Responsive, impartial and equitable provision of services;
  • Accountability for administrative acts; and
  • Transparency and provision of timely and accurate information to the public.
My Government is determined to ensure that our public service embraces these values and principles in totality as laid out in our Constitution. My vision is the ultimate realization of a highly effective government whose record will be defined by the quality of public service delivery in terms of accessibility, quality, fairness and timeliness as well as entrenching the sovereignty of the citizen as our customer.

I, therefore, urge you all to be guided by these principles and a strong sense of personal responsibility to our country. In particular, I urge all of us to strictly uphold the spirit of collective responsibility. Let us work together in the spirit of good faith, mutual trust and confidence. Let me also emphasize that I expect you all to discharge your respective mandates with integrity, courage and utmost professionalism.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

As I pledged to Kenyans during my inauguration as the Fourth President of our country, an overriding commitment of my Government will be to address the problems of poor service delivery and inefficient use of public resources. Towards this end, my Government will continuously seek to reengineer public sector management, in order to meet growing public demand for better services. Indeed, the efficiency of the public sector is a critical condition for economic development. In order for us to achieve our goal of national development and improve the living standards of our people, it is critical that we enhance the efficiency of public service institutions. This will require the continued emphasis on performance contracts as a management framework aimed at improving the performance of Ministries and State Corporations.

The implementation of performance contract will, therefore, continue to be a deliberate strategy of turning around the performance of the public service, in order to achieve accelerated economic development and improved standards of living for our people.

As part of the commitment to improving service delivery, we must also ensure maximum accountability and transparency in the management of public funds and resources. With the new constitutional dispensation, initiatives relating to improvement of efficiency and accountability in the public service must reflect the spirit and letter of our new constitution. I wish to remind you that we must set an example by strictly adhering to the law.

We must also bear in mind that under my Government, all oversight mechanisms, including the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission and all other institutions responsible for enforcing the law will operate without any undue influence from the government.

You have assumed your respective offices at a critical time in which we are implementing the devolved system of government. We all expect that the well-structured and properly administered counties will be the next source of growth and development for our country. Indeed, we expect the new counties to provide new destinations for investments, uncover new resources and opportunities that can generate wealth and employment, and most importantly, facilitate the distribution of opportunities and prosperity equitably throughout our country.

As Cabinet Secretaries, you will be required to support the implementation of devolved system of government. In this process, we must proceed on the understanding that we now have two tiers of government which are distinct yet mutually interdependent. We must, therefore, respect the space accorded to each level of government by the law. As we implement devolution, let us however remember that Kenya remains one indivisible nation.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

As you are all aware, the Kenya Vision 2030 is our long-term development blueprint for the country. It is inspired by our collective aspiration to build a much better society than the one we have today. The overriding aim is to make Kenya a globally competitive and prosperous country with a high quality of life for all Kenyans.

Beyond the implementation of the Vision 2030 flagship projects, the agenda of transforming our country into a middle economy will require tremendous work in infrastructure development, massive developments in energy generation, huge investments in agriculture, deliberate efforts to create a competitive advantage for our country and heavy investments in the social sector, especially in health and education as envisaged in the Jubilee manifesto.

As Cabinet Secretaries you will be expected to provide the strategic leadership that will lead to the realization of Vision 2030 goals as well as the pledges that we have made in the Jubilee manifesto. This will require a great deal of hard work and focus. I am confident that you are equal to this task.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I wish to emphasize that Vision 2030 projects, indeed the overall growth of our economy, will be achieved within the framework of Public Private Partnership. You will be expected, therefore, to further strengthen the policy, legal and institutional framework that has been put in place for Public Private Partnerships. The aim will be to facilitate private sector participation, joint ventures and foreign direct investment in key development projects in the country, including investments in power generation, roads, railways and ports.

In addition to forging strong partnerships with the private sector, we must never lose sight of the ordinary citizens who are the customers or ultimate users and beneficiaries of public services. Our people have a duty to expect good services from public agencies, demand accountability for results from all public officers and report to the necessary offices when services are not forthcoming.

As we seek to be customer-oriented, I also expect all Kenyans to play their role in ensuring that our public service is efficient and accountable. They must in particular demand accountability and effective service delivery. At the same time, I especially appeal to our people to actively seek to fight corruption which has remained a key challenge in service delivery in the country. Above all, I call upon all Kenyans, public servants and ordinary citizens alike, to cultivate a culture of hard work, integrity, innovation and meritocracy. It is only in this way that we shall be able to compete effectively at the global arena with other countries.

As a Government, we are also taking steps to ensure that we step-up security around the country. Those who think that they can shake our national security must know that we will take all necessary steps to enable our people go about their national and individual duties peacefully.

Finally, let me state that the unveiling of a new government is a great opportunity to transform our nation. Let us always bear this in mind as we serve our people. The Kenyan people want to see a positive transformation in their social and economic lives. Let us seize this opportunity and deliver on their expectations.

With these remarks, I once again wish you great success in your new appointments.

Thank you and God bless you all.

Breaking News: Kenyan Blogger Robert Alai Detained

This is the latest update from Robert Alai as posted on his facebook account

'Ask William Oduol why CID officers under the command of Mr Kariuki are detaining me without any charges yet. Being detained since 11 AM. They can't charge me because they know that they have no case. Ask him also where I posted the offending messages. He either produce the screenshots or the links to the messages.

Daily Post, Jackal News, Nairobi Wi and others have all presented writings against Oduol. He is bitter about nothing. IRONIC that we fought for Oduol during the last ODM nominations thinking he was the best option. William Oduol is proving that power makes him very corrupt. This is going to be a very good lesson to Oduol. Let him fool himself.

BTW I went to court knowing that Oduol was misusing the justice system and wanting me arrested. That is why I was prepared to go into a police cell'.

Earlier today, the below statement purported to be from  Oduol was posted on Gor Mahia is not a club but a lifestyle facebook account. It read:

'Dear All,
Today, I filed both criminal libel and civil suit against one Robert Alai, a blogger who has been posting falsehoods on his Facebook page, twitter and blogs that I am a wife batterer. I have done this because I believe in the rule of law and would like the whole truth to come out. I am an accomplished professional who has worked hard to get to where I have got and would not allow anybody to bring my name to disrepute without any justifiable reason. On this breathe, I would also like to ask our hard working journalists to practice responsible

journalism and only report/post on issues they have researched on and/or have enough evidence.

Like every law abiding citizen that may feel aggrieved and believes in due process, I wrote my statement with CID headquarters for the criminal libel suit and also instructed my lawyers to file a civil suit, both of which were executed and served on Mr. Alai today. The constitution enshrines certain liberties to all of us and in the fullness of time, we shall know who is telling the truth. As a by the way, I would like to caution that we do not allow politicians to use us in spreading malicious and unfounded falsehoods against innocent Kenyans.

I thank you all for handling this discourse with decorum and civility'.

Decision Times Kenya is keenly following the developments of this Alai/Oduol episode and will keep on updating any development.

Shocking: Woman's Private Parts Disappears After Sleeping With Married Man

ZIMBABWE – A 29-year-old Bulawayo woman from Matshobana suburb got the shock of her life when she woke up in the morning and realised that her private parts were missing, it is alleged.

Chipo Sibanda reportedly learnt the hard way in the early hours of 29 April when she visited the toilet but could not urinate upon discovering that her vagina had mysteriously sealed. The woman is said to have nearly collapsed when she noticed that her ‘most sweetness spot’ had mysteriously sealed.

However, a ZImbabwean online publication says it has learnt that Chipo was in the habit of sleeping with married men – a claim which was confirmed by the alleged hubby-snatcher. It is reported that Chipo approached one of the women whose husband had allegedly ‘strayed’ to Chipo’s ‘honey jar’.

A source who stays in Bulawayo’s Matshobana suburb where there incident reportedly took place, said a woman popularly known as Mai Tawanda had previously warned Chipo to stay away from her husband. The source said after the spine-chilling incident, the ‘vaginaless’ woman approached Mai Tawanda and begged for forgiveness.

“She didn’t have a choice in this case but to approach Mai Tawanda and apologise. No one remains calm upon realising that her sexual organ is missing. If she had not approached Mai Tawanda we could be talking about something else,” said a source close to Chipo.

It is reported that Mai Tawanda first thrashed Chipo but much to the surprise of everyone, the bashed woman did not cry. The alleged husband-snatcher was saved by Mai Tawanda’s sister who had been summoned to hear the confession.

“She was set free 3 hours after the beating. She made a promise to Mai Tawanda that she would never see her husband or even come near him. That is when she was told to go to the toilet and check if her organ was back,” she said.

After several attempts to get hold of Chipo, our news crew eventually managed to hook up with the woman who openly revealed that she had learnt a big lesson.

“I am sorry to all women I have wronged. It wasn’t my intention to break their marriages. It (the disappearance of her organ) was so scary and the thought that I couldn’t piss was frightening. I could feel that my bladder was full but I couldn’t do anything,” she said.

Efforts to get a comment from the much dreaded Mai Tawanda proved futile by the time of going to press. : Source Ttumfweko (http://tumfweko.com)

No Dog Was Involved In The Mombasa Porn Case: Police States

As time changes so do information. Police on Wednesday denied reports that a dog was involved in the shooting of a pornographic video at an apartment in Nyali estate last week.

A Swiss national and eleven women were arrested at the apartment  while allegedly shooting the  video. The twelve were initially reported to have been shooting the video with a dog.

However, Kisauni DCIO Shadrack Juma, who is leading the investigations dismissed the allegation.

" To my knowledge no dog was found during the police raid,” said Juma. The Kisauni DCIO said it is unfair for the public to give false reports about the incident.

The Swiss, Christopher Clement Weissenrieder who faces three counts of exploitation of prostitution and was released on a Sh1 million  bond. The Kenyan ladies were released on a Sh100,000 bond each.

Kenya's Victor Mugubi Wanyama Voted Scottish Young Player Of The Year: Congratulations Brother

Victor Wanyama
Kenyan international midfielder Victor Wanyama of Scottish club, Celtic, on Monday evening added the Clydesdale Bank Young Player of the Season award to his ever growing list of accolades this season.

By winning bagging the coveted title, barely a fortnight after winning a similar award at club level, the combative holding midfielder wraps up the season as one of the most decorated player in the Hoops’ squad.

According to Sports TV, the Kenyan international, who is in his second year with the Scottish champions, failed to win a monthly award in the league this campaign but was been recognized for his consistent performances in the course of the Scottish Premier League campaign.
Wanyama joins Motherwell boss, Stuart McCall, and Hibernian’s Leigh Griffiths in winning the annual awards, with the pair having been named as Manager and Player of the Season respectively.

The 21 year old had been nominated for the PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year Award, but lost out to Griffiths in the union’s prize.

Historic win
Wanyama has made 49 appearances for Celtic this season, and scored in his side’s historic 2-1 home win over Barcelona in the UEFA Champions’ League group stage match.
The former Germinal Beerschot and Nairobi City Stars player, whose style of play has been linked to that of on-loan Real Madrid midfielder and Ghana international, Michael Essien, has become a household name in Europe owing to his impeccable performance this season.

The player has been linked with several top clubs in Europe despite having a year left in his contract.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger tops the list of elite club managers that have expressed interest for his services, with Serie A champions Juventus also reported to be interested.

Football Kenya Federation chairman Sam Nyamweya, yesterday lauded the player for his achievement.

“Wanyama’s selection as Scottish Young Player of the Year is a joyous development for Kenyan football. To see one of our own feted in a very competitive league is a great honour,” Nyamweya said.

“The selection was no real surprise to us here as Wanyama has always been the epitome of professionalism, whether playing for his club side Celtic or donning national colours for the Harambee Stars. His dedication and commitment to positive results has been consistent with his game. We are very happy for him,” Nyamweya added.

Now a prized asset in Neil Lennon’s squad, Wanyama’s journey to the top has been no walk in the park. His growth has been marred by great challenges, but resilience and will seems to have kept the son of Noah Wanyama, a former AFC Leopards and Harambee Stars great focused in his game.

The Funniest Joke Ever On Churchil Show

There were four second year students at the University of Nairobi  taking Organic Chemistry. They were doing so well on all the quizzes, midterms and labs, etc., that each had an "A" so far for the semester.
These four friends were so confident that the weekend before finals, they decided to Kenyatta University and party with some friends there. They had a great time, but after all the hearty partying, they slept all day Sunday and didn't make it back to Nairobi until early Monday morning.

Rather than taking the final then, they decided to find their professor after the final and explain to him why they missed it. They explained that they had gone to KU for the weekend with the plan to come back in time to study, but, unfortunately, they had a flat tire on the way back, didn't have a spare, and couldn't get help for a long time. As a result, they missed the final.

The professor thought it over and then agreed they could make up the final the following day. The guys were elated and relieved. They studied that night and went in the next day at the time the professor had told them. He placed them in separate rooms and handed each of them a test booklet, and told them to begin.

They looked at the first problem, worth five points. It was something simple about free radical formation. "Cool," they thought at the same time, each one in his separate room, "this is going to be easy." Each finished the problem and then turned the page.

On the second page was written: (For 95 points): Which tire?
